Today during our visit to Chiang Mai University, we saw a beautiful and colorful sculpture of a ship. Beside the sculpture was a box filled with small tied-up pieces of paper. After our tour and lectures at the University, one of the pharmacists explained the significance of the ship.
Next Thursday, November 25th, is an event known as Loi Krathong. This event falls on the night of the full moon during the twelfth lunar month, which is November 25th. During this event, the pieces of paper would be placed into the ship and the ship would be released in into the river. It is believed that with this, misfortune would be released away and it would bring good luck.
It is tradition to place a piece of hair or fingernail, along with your name, in the piece of paper and then tie it closed with a string.
Many of us participated in this tradition!
